Lab and Diagnostics

Lab and diagnostic procedures are tests used to check if a person’s health is normal. A lab can test a blood sample, urine or body tissue to see if something is wrong. A diagnostic test, include blood pressure testing, can show if you have low or high blood pressure.

We provide different types of Lab and Diagnostics Services at HIMAS Hospital. They include:

3D/4D Ultrasounds

3D /4D ultrasounds use sound waves to create an image of baby in your womb. 3D ultrasounds create a three-dimensional baby image, while 4D ultrasounds create a live video effect, such as a movie -- you can watch baby smile or yawn.

Mostly Parents want 3D and 4D ultrasounds. They let you see baby's face for the first time. Some doctors like 3D and 4D ultrasounds because they can check or detect some birth defects, such as cleft palate, that might not show up on a standard ultrasound.

3D and 4D ultrasounds are safe. Plus, the images can help healthcare provider spot a problem with baby and make it easier for them to explain it to you.

Who gets the Test?

3D/ 4D ultrasounds are optional. They're not standard prenatal tests. Doctors often give them as a courtesy to women who really want them.

How the test is done?

For an abdominal ultrasound, patient will lie down and a technician will put a certain gel on belly. This helps in carrying the sound waves and the technician will hold a probe against belly and move it around to get an image of your baby.

Digital X-ray

A digital X-ray, or digital radiography, is a modern type of X-ray that uses digital sensors instead of photographic film. The image captured is converted to digital data immediately and is given for review within seconds.

How the test is done?

Digital X-rays,helps doctor to examine inside a patient’s body. This is done to observe the extent of the damage done during an injury, such as bone breaks and fractures. They can also detect masses in soft tissue, which could lead to the discovery of a tumour or other illnesses.

Digital X-rays are of particular interest in dentistry, means that a dentist can enhance the images by controlling the exposure in real time and therefore can obtain detailed results that can be shared with the patient immediately.

What are the advantages of digital X-rays?

Digital X-rays have many advantages:

  • Clarity – digital X-rays produces very high quality images.
  • Real-time enhancement –doctor can adjust the exposure in real time, making the images lighter and darker as needed to see particular aspects of the scan more clearly.
  • Speed –available for review immediately.
  • Reduces radiation exposure –they do so with lower doses of radiation than other X-rays, which is better for the patient.
  • Avoids the chemicals use for developing film.

Echocardiography

Echocardiography uses sound waves to create an image of the heart and to see how it is functioning. Depending on the echocardiography test they use, doctors detect about the size, shape, and movement of your heart muscle, how the heart valves are working, how blood flows through your heart, and how your arteries functions.

It also detects aorta dissection, a tearing within the layers of the wall of the aorta.

How does it work?

Echocardiography uses high-frequency sound waves that produces a moving picture of heart. The sound waves are sent through the body with a device known as transducer. The echoes are converted into images on a television monitor to produce pictures of heart.

One-dimensional echocardiography is one beam of ultrasound directed toward the heart.

Two-dimensional echocardiography creates a broader moving picture of heart.

Doppler echocardiography measures blood flowing through the arteries.

Why Endoscopy is done?

  • detect your healthcare provider determine the cause of any abnormal symptoms you’re having
  • remove a small stissue sample, which can then be sent to a lab for further testing; this is called an endoscopic biopsy
  • help your doctor see inside the body during a surgical procedure, such as repairing a stomach ulcer, or removing gallstones or tumors

  • infections

Health Check-Up

Regular health exams and tests can help detect problems before they begins. They also can help find issues early, when treatment chances and cure are better. Which exams and screenings you need depends on age, health and family history, and lifestyle choices like what you eat, how active you are, and whether you smoke.
